BYU had their first home game tonight against Utah and it was a great game! It's been a lot of years since we beat Utah and tonight we did it! All the fans rushed the field after the win and you better believe Rease, Rhen and I were out there with them!

September 11th tower climb
BYU hosted a tower climb on September 11th honoring those that were lost in the terrorist attack 20 years ago. We climbed the equivalent of the amount of stairs that are in one of the towers. It was 1 and 1/4 times around the whole Lavell Edwards Stadium. While we climbed they showed images of those that were lost and we all had a badge with one of their names on us. It was really cool and a really beautiful morning to be there.

NJHS
Rease was sworn in as a member of the National Junior Honor Society this evening. It's a really cool honor and something that will take some hard work throughout the year. They have to do a certain amount of service hours every quarter and participate in different types of community events, along with keeping up a good GPA. So proud of that girl!

Concert in the park
Our young men and young women gathered as a group in the park to listen to Alex Boye give a concert. It was so fun to be outside on a beautiful night with all these amazing kids that we love!

Pickleball tournament
We held our 8th annual scones and pickleball tournament this morning with our neighborhood! We had a record crowd and so many good people came and played, ate yummy food and enjoyed lots of good company together. The competition was great this year and lots of the games went down to the wire. In the end Connor and Erin were the winners! They are both past winners with different partners but played together today and won again!

BYU vs. Arizona
BYU had its season opener against Arizona in Allegient Stadium in Las Vegas this weekend. A bunch of us got tickets to the game and went down for the weekend. It was so fun to watch a football game in person again and we enjoyed the whole weekend together playing games and eating good food and enjoying some great company!

Super Kid
Keen was the Super Kid of his class this week and was able to make this poster all about himself and then present it to the class. I got to join the class while he talked and it was so cute to see him up there in front presenting. Then all the kids were able to ask him questions about himself. It was a fun day to learn all about Keen and the things he loves!

Rainbow
We had this gorgeous rainbow out our back window today that stretched from one end of the sky to the other. These two lucky boys ran underneath it and we snapped a pic of their smiling faces!

Bed Head
This boy woke up with some amazing bed head today. We need to tame that mane before he heads to school!
Bike
Desh has been so anxious to learn to ride a bike so he could ride to school and back with the other kids. All the kids took him under their wing and taught him in one day how to ride! Now he can't be stopped. Freedom for this boy of mine!

Citrus Hill Days 24-29 (August 17-21, 2021)
After a red-eye flight and a lot of discouragement waiting for me upon arrival (due primarily to fatigue) the morning sun shone a little brighter on the silhouette of this wonderful place.
I emphasize the front due to the fact that all the rest of the windows were mistakenly made to have a sandblasted glass finish instead of the clear blue green you see here (Drrr....). It's going to be a few more weeks until the fix them!
Regardless the ones that did go in look awesome! They make the house look clean and accent the good angles of the place.
Hector Melendez came by later that day to make quick work of tidying up the yard.
This little guy showed up to join us.
I've resorted to cutting out the Guinea Grass but I feel like I'm fighting a losing battle. Oh well, we'll see if it looks any better in a few weeks.
The house looks particularly glowing in the sunset. Those missing windows constantly reminding me to be patient and take progress as it comes. The further along we get the more promise I see.
August 18th. Time to prep for plumbing, electrical and gas pipe. Everyone is going to need access above to what lies above the false ceiling in the main area downstairs.
This guy and his buddies did a number on us but it looks like the rat poison of a few months ago got him dead but in the wrong spot. More than once I was showered in standing rat poop soaked water from the tiles above. Not my favorite day by a long shot!
Last but not least, that stubborn breadfruit (pana de pepita). This darn thing is right up next to the septic system and is a real mess maker. Not to mention the 5 lb fruit falling in the middle of the night to give me something to think twice about.
It had to go so Freddie the Arbolista and his boys made a special trip Saturday morning to make quick work of it. These are particularly fast growing and thrive in the wet climate of El Yunque.
The milky whit sap poured from every cut. This thing would really take over if I let it go for a couple more years.
One last cut from the top to the bottom and it was gone.
What a great and productive trip. All the pieces are coming together for more progress in a shorter timeline. Still so much to do but every little step makes a huge difference.
Mountain Bike Team
Rhen joined the junior high mountain biking team this year and has been working so hard. She has been a little nervous about it, but has grown so much with her confidence and I'm so proud of how far she has come! They had their first race today up at Powder Mountain. It was a gorgeous day on the mountain and it was so fun to watch all these mountain bikers working so hard. Rhen did awesome and was really happy with how she did. Love this girl and her grit!

Marching Band Season
Marching band season is here and they got to play at the first football game tonight. They've been practicing for weeks now and Rease is so excited that it's all starting!
Mow-Lawning
Desh loves to help Josh in the yard and his favorite thing is to "mow-lawn" the back yard. He's so cute pushing that big mower around mowing in super crooked lines. And the red face at the end of the day is just the cherry on top!

1st day of school
The 1st day of school is here and I can't hardly believe summer is already over. It was gone in a flash. But these cute kids are so excited to be back in the classroom (with no masks!) and to see their friends! It was rough one for Beck as he was standing in line to go into school. But after a quick hug, a few tears and promise that I'll be thinking of him all day, he went and made a day out of his first day of 2nd grade. He's going to be fine. They are all going to have a great year! We're split between Fort Herriman Middle (Rease and Rhen) and Butterfield Canyon Elementary (Liev, Keen, Beck and Desh). It's a crazy day that all 6 of my kids are gone during the day, although kindergarten isn't quite a day yet since Desh just goes in the afternoon. Regardless, its a crazy moment to get to when all the kids are gone!

Keen's Birthday
Keen turned 9 today! What the world?! All he wanted in the world was to play nintendo with his brothers and eat cake and ice cream. We rolled it all in to one and made a nintendo cake and then play Smash Bros all night. What a fun boy he is!
9 year old stats from Dr. Erikson:
Height: 4'9" - 94%
Weight: 76 lbs. 8 oz. - 84%
My favorite things about 9 year old Keen:
1) Keen has been working really hard on having a good attitude lately and I will say he has come so far in his progress! He is pleasant and kind and so easy to be around. I love this boy who is trying so hard to be good!
2) Keen doesn't like surprises and prefers to have a plan in his mind about how things will go. If he thinks that he's going for a bike ride and then at the last minute we decide to go out on the boat for the day, he doesn't like that. Not that he doesn't like being on the boat, it's just that he hadn't planned on that so it's hard for him to adjust his mindset. I appreciate this about him because he's a planner and really organized in his thoughts and actions. It's going to do good for him as he gets older!
3) Keen is tender hearted and sweet. He likes to snuggle up when we're watching a movie or will tell me that he likes the outfit I'm wearing out of nowhere. He is charming and the girls all love him, including his Mama!
Happy Birthday my cute boy!

Temple
Because of covid the temples have been closed for more than a year. They've started opening up for small groups and Rhen was able to do her first baptisms this week with her young women's group! Josh was there as well and helped baptize and it was a really cool moment for her to be there. I'm so proud of this girl and the choices that she's making!

Baby Boat Week
We took a few days and headed to the lake one more time before the season ends. Baby Boat Week is what the kids lovingly started to call this last few days before school starts and we all head back to normal schedules and routines. We can't seem to get enough of our time at this place and on this beautiful lake! We did all the things we love: Slalom ski, kneeboard, family swims, wakeboard, jump off the front of the boat, cherry pit spitting contest, topped off with smores and games at the cabin each evening. Just the perfect few days together. I also spent some time looking back at all the years we've had the boat and been on the lake together. I found pictures of us for the past decade together sitting in the same spot on the boat. It's amazing how our kids have literally grown up on this lake. This was a treat to see!

Sleepy
Desh was my date tonight to Hale Center Theater. I think he liked the show, but not as much as he wanted to sleep...
