Papa's Office

Every once in a while I take the girls to work with me. I have my own office across the hall that we have stocked with a dvd player and 2 porta-cribs for my girls. So Rease is good watching movies all day long and I can also put them both down for naps while I work - it's a nice little setup we have. Anyway, Rease pretty much thinks she owns the place when we're there. She knows everyone's names and follows them around trying to help clean up or do whatever they are doing. One day Ischalyn, one of our assistants, was writing numbers on all the alginate trays so we could separate them. Later I caught Rease doing the same thing to the trays...
She wrote her tiny hieroglyphics in just the same place that she saw Ischalyn do...
Then stacked them very nicely and was onto the next one.
It was a very intense job.
She has also learned what goes into cleaning someone's teeth. She practices with her baby and with Minnie Mouse.
I didn't help her do this at all - I just found her in the room with her baby all ready for a cleaning. Bib on with the bib clip, earphones and a blanket.
Just a rinse...
And time for the polish...
Who knew that Minnie Mouse even had teeth?
Future Dental Hygienist? I think so!

What a man...

I need to take a minute and brag about my amazing husband. He has been through a tough couple of weeks and I want everyone to know what a great husband and dad he is to us 3 girls.
Josh and I have had an official role-reversal happen to us. He is concentrating on his last semester and half of grad school (yipee!) and I am back in the working world for now. Josh has class at night and so he is home during the day. Staying home means that he is taking care of the girls, keeping up with the housework and all the other things that go on during the day. On top of that he is trying to get as much studying done as he can while still trying to stay sane. I have to admit I think I have the easier job right now. It's hard to know how much really goes on day to day until you have to tell someone else everything they need to do to keep the schedule up. Here are a few minor details that I forgot to tell Josh:
1) Laundry is quite an ordeal. The clothes have to be separated into whites, colors, towels, handwash and no dry. Spray and wash needs to go on all the kids clothes where they have spilled food stains, grass stains, poop stains, etc. My scrubs need to be washed twice a week (because I only have 2 pair to wear all week.) Since I have been doing laundry for years, I know in my mind which article of clothing goes in which pile. Josh on the other hand does not yet. So after his first try at the laundry, I was helping him fold. He held up a pair of his pants that should have gone in the "no dry" pile but actually got put in the dryer. Poor guy now has a pair of pants that are very snug and about 4 inches too short. They are now in the DI pile.
2) Couponing is an art. I don't expect Josh to take over the coupon shopping at all, but once in a while I set out everything for him and he goes for me if I don't have a chance. Last week I sent him with a coupon for a prescription and 2 five dollar bills (which was more than enough to pay for the $4 prescription that he was picking up for me.) He came home with the receipt for a $15.99 prescription. I asked him if the insurance was billed and why it cost so much. He looked at me like, "Um, I picked up the prescription like you asked and I didn't know I was supposed to ask them any questions." I figured he would know that it only cost $4 but then how would he know that? I have never told him how much things like that should cost.
3) I have daily appointments at Golds Gym for my girls. I have an hour and a half to work out while they stay in the day care. Appointments have to be made a week in advance or they fill up and we aren't able to go. I always make my appointment for the next week the day that I am in there. So with the role-reversal Josh has assumed the duty of going to the gym with the girls at my 9:00 appointed time each day. I guess I forgot to remind him about the pre-appointing because he got through the week and realized that he was not on the schedule for next week at all. Hopefully someone cancels so we can get back on schedule!
4) Diaper sizes are tricky. Rease is potty-trained but still wears a diaper at night and at naps just in case. Rhen just graduated from size 2 diapers to size 3. But there are different sizes within the size. Walgreens diapers are slightly smaller than Huggies and Pampers. So she is in a Walgreens size 3 but not quite to a Huggies/Pampers size 3 (they're still big enough that she pees out the sides.) Once she grows out of Walgreens size 3 then I move her up to Huggies/Pampers size 3, then to Walgreens size 4, etc. So I came home from work one day and got a diaper out of Rhen's drawer. I realized right away that it was a Huggies diaper (just by the look of it) and that it was going to be too big for her. I then tried to explain the sizes to Josh and he said, "yeah that's a size 3." Yes but not a Walgreens size 3.
Just a few minor details that I know but forgot to pass on to my sweet husband who is trying so hard to do things just right!
Josh is amazing because even though there are a million things going on in the day and lots of details to remember, he loves loves loves our girls and shows them how much he loves them all day long. He is such a great dad. And on top of everything he has time to get me flowers...

I got these one day when I was at work - special delivery from Josh and my girls. (Rease wanted to pick her own flower to add to the arrangement so that's where the dandelion comes from.)

So after a long week of being at home, we took a much needed date night. I asked him how his week was at home and he said "I'm exhausted!"

What a man I have! Thanks Josh for all you do!

Curious

I don't know what to say about these pictures except that I think they are adorable of my curious, observant girl!

Extra chubby

We pulled out Rhen's winter coat this morning as we were leaving the house. She looks extra chubby in it. She cried when she tried to roll over and realized she couldn't with the coat on. She also doesn't fit in her carseat when it's on so that's a problem. She is so tall that she has almost grown out of her carseat - and with the coat on it is impossible to buckle. What are we going to do with that growing girl?

Pumpkin Picking

We waited until almost the last day this year to buy our pumpkins. Yesterday we stopped at Smith's and let Rease pick one out.

"So cute." That's what she said about the one she decided on.

And then cried because it was too heavy to carry.

No longer bald!

Rhen is finally getting hair long enough to see that she is not bald anymore. She does get mistaken for a boy plenty of times still so I try to keep something pink on her or a headband to clue everyone in that she is actually a girl. Josh found this one the other day and stuck it on her. She kept it on just long enough to snap a couple of cute pics of her.

Halloween Cookies

We made Halloween cookies Sunday - Rease loves helping me cook and also loves that she can sneak a taste every now and then.
The best part is making the shapes.
Making sure they are okay for everyone else to eat.
The finished product. Thanks to Rease they turned out great!

College Gameday

ESPN College Gameday was in Provo last weekend for the BYU/TCU game. We went down early to see the whole setup but it ended up being just ESPN radio left by the time we got there. It was pretty cool still and we had fun with all the pregame stuff going on.

Even though BYU lost bigtime and it was raining and freezing, we of course love going to the games. Thanks for the tickets dad!

Hieroglyphics

Rease is a funny girl. She loves to write, color, draw - anything to do with pens or crayons. But she has her own style of "coloring." She concentrates so much on what she is doing and this is what her drawings end up looking like. More like hieroglyphics than anything. I think she thinks she is actually writing because she watches what we do when we write and then tries to copy it. Anyway, I find these drawings all over the house (and all over herself too as you can see.)

Hieroglyphics: handwriting, figures, character, code, etc., difficult to decipher.
Yah that sounds about right.

Supermodel

Rhen has this pose that she pulls while she's crawling. She'll pause for a second and roll onto her side and just look around. Maybe she'll grow up to be a supermodel - she sure has the pose down!

Mom's laundry

What is it about a pile of clean laundry that is so tempting? I remember loving to play in my mom's laundry when I was younger - now my girls are up to the same thing.

Breakfast

Josh loves making breakfast for us on Saturday mornings and he makes the most delicious things. Last time it was sausage egg biscuits.

This is how Rease's looked when it started...
Every bite she took, she actually took the whole thing apart and bit off a piece of either the sausage, egg or biscuit and then put it all back together.

Eventually she ate the whole thing, but it took her a while.

The Army Crawl

So Rhen figured out how to crawl about a month ago. I wasn't really prepared for this so early since Rease didn't crawl until after she started walking, but prepared or not, we have had to learn to make the house babyproof once again.
She's funny cause she gets up on her hands and knees like this but doesn't go anywhere from there.

But she actually flops back onto her stomach and army crawls her way to wherever it is she wants to go.

Rhen is a master at finding the smallest, tiniest anything on the ground and getting it into her mouth before I even have a chance to get to her. I am constantly digging things out of her mouth: leaves, lint, crumbs and today Josh got a dime out. Her latest thing is putting her fingers in her mouth and gagging herself - what is that about? Crazy girl!

First tooth

Rhen tries to keep her one tooth hidden - but I got a few shots of it. It's so cute, her one lone tooth. She looks like a jack-o-lantern to me - fitting for this Halloween season!

Sunshine Glasses

This is what I woke up to one morning...

"Look mom! I found the sunshine glasses!"
Nevermind that they're actually baby glasses and much too small for her head.
